REVIEW: Do you have any preschool aged children? I do. I have a 3 year old and now a 7 year old! When my daughter was in Kindergarten last year, I was absolutely amazed to discover all the site words the kids were supposed to know by the end of the year. I think it was 90 words! I’m trying to prepare my 3 year old for all this knowledge he will be expected to know so I was so happy to review PreK Scholars! We received a Scholarville huge fold out poster of a town ‘Scholarville’ that had characters representing each letter of the alphabet each with their respective jobs. Part of the curriculum is to work your way thru the town as new letters are introduced. My 7 yr. old put all the stickers on each letter while I wasn’t in the room before we started working on the curriculum but it would be neat to put each letter on as you go. I also received the core curriculum DVD. Initially I thought this was a video, but it’s a DVD for the computer! Here is the Phonics Cards Demo from the PreK Scholars website:
There are 22 weekly lessons, most covering one letter per week, but you can move at your own pace. The interactive DVD begins with the letter ‘P’, then ‘H’, ‘B’ and so on because these are the letters that are easiest to pronounce. Makes sense. Each letter has activities such as: videos of sounds and motions, digitized phonics cards, and printable activities you can print out for your child. My 3 year old like the video concept of watch the sounds and motions. We have a laptop and so I set him up with it at the table. He had a hard time using the touch pad to move the arrow after each session. It made me realize it would be nice to have a desktop computer again with a mouse, maybe that would have been easier for him to do it. Over all I am thrilled with this as I didn’t really know how to begin to prepare him for kindergarten. The Core Curriculum DVD is $39.95 plus s&h and can be purchased at the PreK Scholars website: https://www.prekscholars.com. Want to WIN the Kindergarden Readiness kit?
